General

G1) What operating systems will WinFactor! run under?
WinFactor! will run on any 32 bit Windows platform Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP and will work on any network.

G2) What is the demo password?
For the version 3.5 demo, the user name is "user" (lower case and without the quotes) and the password is also "user".

G3) Will WinFactor! version 3 work with QuickBooks 99 ?
Yes, WinFactor! V3 interface with QuickBooks V6 and QuickBooks 99 and 2000, 2001, 2002

Installation

I1) How do I install WinFactor on a network?
First install WinFactor on the c-drive.  (never install the program on a network drive).  Next, move the datafile (c:\program files\winfactor 3.0\wf30data.mdb) from the c-drive of your PC to your network drive, you can put it anywhere you want. (be sure to move it, not copy it). After you move the datafile, the next time you start WinFactor!, it will see that the datafile is not where it once was, and it will prompt you for the new location. Enter the path where you moved it to, and you will be set.

For other PCs, simply install the demo version on the c-drive of each PC. Then delete the datafile the demo installed from the c-drive (usually in c:\program files\winfactor 3.0\) and the next time you start WinFactor! on that PC, it will ask you for the location of the datafile. Enter the new network location and the program will start up normally.

I2) I have Access 2000/2002 on my PC, how do I install WinFactor!?
Our software was developed in Access 97. When the program installs, it sees your 2000 version of Access and does not install the runtime version of Access 97. To fix this, find msaccess.exe on your c drive, rename it to msaccess.old, install WinFactor!, then change the name of msaccess.old back to msaccess.exe

This will allow you to run WinFactor! using the runtime version of Access 97 and also have Access 2000/2002 on your PC.

I3) I installed WinFactor! 3.0 on a new computer and am getting a prompt "enter the path to the datafile."  Where is my datafile?
By default WinFactor looks for its datafile in the directory "c:\program files\winfactor 3.0\"  You only get this prompt if the file is not there and WinFactor needs to know where it is located.  Simply enter the path to the datafile and WinFactor will start up.

If you are using a multi-user version of WinFactor, your datafile is located somewhere on the network. To find its location, you have a few options.
- If another workstation still runs WinFactor without the error, go to "Tables/Setup", then "Company Info" and you can see the path under the field 'datapath'
- you can do a search on your network for the file wf30data.mdb

I4) How do you move WinFactor! from one PC to another?
First you need to install the demo version of WinFactor! on the new PC.  To do this, download the demo from our website at www.winfactor.com and install it on the new PC.  Next move the datafile wf30data.mdb from the old PC to the new one. (This file is by default installed in the directory c:\program files\winfactor3.0\)  Moving the datafile will convert the demo version on the new PC to the full version of WinFactor!.  Since the demo version is not always the latest version of WinFactor!, we also recommend downloading the latest update .Click here for Updates

I5) I went to your web page and downloaded the newest updates for WinFactor! 3.0 and don't think it took on my computer. I can't find any instructions from the previous download to make sure I am updating the system correctly. Could you send me the instructions on how to update my programs with the update?
All you do is click on the link on our webpage that says 'download the latest version of WinFactor! 3.0' and select 'save to disk'. Then your computer will prompt you for the location. You want to save the file in c:\program files\winfactor 3.0\ It will ask you if you want to over-write the existing file, answer yes and you are done.

I6) How do you backup the system?
It is best if you use a tape drive and backup your entire system. But if you just want to backup critical files, there is only file you need to backup in WinFactor!. It is the datafile, it has a slightly different name depending on your version of WinFactor!.

I7) I get the message "Compile Error in hidden Module" or in a Non Runtime Environment: "Compile Error: Function or Interface Marked as restricted" when I start WinFactor.
This indicates that the dao350.dll is not registered correctly.  To correct this error, re-register the dll by typing 

 regsvr32 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\dao350.dll

at a command prompt.  For more info see Microsoft Bulletin 319489

I8) How can I get WinFactor! to run faster on my network?.
There are 2 things we have seen that make a significant difference in speed.
1) Make sure you are running the program on your local c drive.  Only the datafile (wf30data.mdb) should be on the network.
2) If your datafile is on a network server, use UNC (\\servername\resourcname\) instead of a mapped network drive to reference it.  The easiest way to do this is to go to the company screen (under tables) and click on the button next to the datapath.  WinFactor! will prompt you for a new location of the datafile, input the UNC equivalent of the mapped path.

I9) Some import/export buttons come up with the error "couldn't find installable ISAM", how do I fix this?.
This problem is caused by a missing or unregistered .dll WinFactor uses for exporting.  To fix the problem, first find out if the driver for this file is on your PC. Do a search for the file msexcl35.dll (it should be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\) If the file is there, then try re-registering it by running.

 regsvr32 C:\windows\systems32\msexcl35.dll

Restart WinFactor and see if the import/export runs now. If not, then check the registry to see if it has the correct path. Run Regedit and look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\3.5\Engines\Excel . Correct the path if it does not point to the location of the file (msexcl35.dll)

If the file (msexcl35.dll) is not on your PC, download this zip file setup.zip Uncompress it and run the setup program. This program will install the missing ISAM dll's needed to import and export some types of data. Then restart WinFactor and see if the error comes back. If it does, use the steps above to find the location of the file (msexcl35.dll) and see if the registry entry for it is correct. If it path in the registry is invalid, correct it.

Once you have confirmed that the file is on your PC, it is registered and that the path is correct, WinFactor will be able to use the ISAM driver.

If you receive this error message when generating the letter of notification, use the steps above but with the dll: MSTEXT35.DLL

I10) When I log into the database, I get the error message: The current user account does not have permission to convert or enable this database.
There are three causes of this.
1) If you just downloaded the update and selected to OPEN the program rather than SAVE, your copy of Access may be trying to open the database. But, since it is a secure database, you can not open it this way. You must use the Icon for WinFactor that was setup during installation (Click on Start, Programs, WinFactor 3.0, WinFactor 3.0) So, just download the file and save it (for directions on how to download the update, click here)

2) If you navigated to the folder where WinFactor is installed, and double clicked on the program database (wf30main.mdb) and you have a copy of Microsoft Access, you will get this message. Again, it is because the database is secure and can not be opened this way. Instead use the Icon for WinFactor that was setup during installation (Click on Start, Programs, WinFactor 3.0, WinFactor 3.0)

3) Lastly, if you get this message when you click on the Icon for WinFactor that was setup during installation (Click on Start, Programs, WinFactor 3.0, WinFactor 3.0) You may have Access 2000 or 2002 (XP) installed on your computer and it confused WinFactor's installation program into not installing the runtime version of Access 97. to solve this, Uninstall WinFactor (from your control panel, Add or Remove Programs), then find msaccess.exe on your PC and rename it to msaccess.old. Re-install WinFactor, confirm that it works then rename msaccess.old back to msaccess.exe.

I11) I noticed a user admin section under Tables/Setup. How do I setup users for WinFactor?
There are two things that need to be done.
<< note, only do step one if you have a multiuser version of WinFactor >>
1) By default, the password file is stored locally on your PC
(c:\program files\winfactor 3.0\WF30.MDW)
move this file from its current location to the same location on the network as your datafile (wf30data.mdb). If you are not sure where your datafile is located on your network, click on Tables/Setup, then Company Info. From there you can the datapath. Be sure to delete or rename the copy of wf30.mdw on your c drive

Then, you will need to edit the WinFactor Icon. To do this, right click on the Icon you use to start WinFactor, select Properties. Under Target, it should read:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\msaccess.exe" /runtime /wrkgrp "C:\Program Files\WinFactor 3.0\WF30.MDW" "C:\Program Files\WinFactor 3.0\WF30MAIN.MDB"

Change where it points to the wf30.mdw file (lets assume your datafile is located in f:\wf30data\) The result would look like this

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\msaccess.exe" /runtime /wrkgrp "f:\wf30data\WF30.MDW" "C:\Program Files\WinFactor 3.0\WF30MAIN.MDB"

Test the link and make sure it works. You will need to do this on each workstation.

2) Now you can start adding users and setting permissions for each one. Be sure to write down the password you assign each user ... the passwords ARE case sensitive! If you loose a password, we can not recover it for you. Instead, you can get a fresh copy of wf30.mdb by clicking here, and starting over with the users.

I12) I have purchased the web upload feature, how do I get it running.
1) First, call our office and get your FactorID and password. Key this in under Tables/Setup, Company Info, Web Upload Tab.
2) Download the Web Upload program. It is comes in a compressed for (.zip). UnZip it in the folder c:\program files\winfactor 3.0\

3) configure a client to view reports via the web upload. Go to Clients and click on the "Web Access" tab. Put a check mark next to "Allow Web Access" and enter in a username and password.

4) Upload reports to the Web! Go to Reports, choose a report to upload (it must be a single client version) and click on the button that says "Web Upload" If the button is grayed out, then that report is not eligible to be uploaded to the web. Follow the prompts to upload the report.

5) View the report online. Visit WinFactor.com and click on Login. Enter in your FactorID and your clients Username and Password to view the report. Once the report is uploaded and tested, you can frame in the Web Access pages so they will work from your website. See

as an example. Have your web designer change the querysting in the frame to match your FactorID and custom colors.

I13) How do I upgrade from Version 3.0 to version 3.5.

I14) When WinFactor opens, I get the following error message:
PurgeCustomReports: _cr Advance Check: The Delete Object action was canceled

GetCustomReports: The TransferDatabase action was canceled

This is caused by a permissions problem when WinFactor is reading in Custom Reports. To solve this problem, exit WinFactor and download this file and unzip it into the directory c:\program files\winfactor 3.5\ replacing the existing file
wf35.mdw

I15) I have purchased the web upload feature, can it upload PDF's instead of the default SNP file?
Yes! purchase PDF995 and install it on the PC you use to upload reports. Then, on the Company Info screen, select the Web Upload Tab and click on 'Upload Reports using PDF format"

Using WinFactor

U1) Do you have a version with British date format ( i.e. our dates are dd/mm/yy.
As far as dates (and currency) are concerned, WinFactor! will conform to the regional settings of your computer. So if you go to Control Panel, Regional Settings, you can select the date format your want (including dd/mm/yy ) as well as your local currency format. WinFactor! will use this for all data entry screens and reports.

U2) Every time we open 3.0 we get this message: "Warning a more current version of WinFactor! has logged into this database (V3 R2.6)." What does that mean?
WinFactor! tracks the most resent version of the software that has logged into your datafile. And if an older version logs in, you will get that message. It is designed to warn users in a multi-user installation that their version is not current. You may get this message after a V2 to V3 conversion. That is because the latest version (which is what was used to convert the data) is more resent than the version you are using. Get the latest update from our website and you will not get that message anymore.

U3) In WinFactor! 3.0 how can we use money due a client from new Advances to pay old invoices that are due to be charged back? Said a different way, how can we replace a bad invoice with a new(good) invoice?
Process the new advance like you normally would. But do not actually create an advance check, instead think of it as creating an imaginary check. Then go to receipts and post this imaginary check against the invoices that are bad. You can then settle the bad invoices like you normally would. Everything will balance out since the cash out (advance) and cash in (receipt) will be the same.

You can make notes on both the advance and receipt screens to indicate what you did for future reference.

U4) I would like to export an accounts receivable aging report to a diskette in an ASCII file format such .txt. How is the best way to facilitate this process?
Just open the report in preview mode. At the top you will see the letter W for Microsoft Word, click on the down arrow to the right and select Excel, that will export your report to Excel, from there you can save it in any text format you want.

U5) How do you settle an invoice that will not be paid by a client?
Go to "Settle Invoices".  Normally the invoices listed on this screen are ones that have been paid.  But, you can add other invoices that have not be paid by clicking on the "Insert Invoice" button.   WinFactor! will calculate the fee to date, add it to the advance amount and post a negative net rebate for that amount.  If you settle this invoice with several others that have a positive rebate, the negative rebate for the one invoice will be balanced by the positive rebates for the others.  If you want, you can even settle the invoices when the total net rebate is negative.  This will simply reduce the clients rebate account by the total net rebate.  Printing out the Settlement Statement will help to understand this process.

An additional feature of WinFactor! is "Auto Recourse".  Under Tables, Terms you can select the number of days you want to hold onto an invoice before you sell it back to the client.  After that time has passed, the invoice will automatically appear under "Settle Invoices" to remind you to sell the invoice back to the client.

In addition, if you export transactions to Quickbooks, you will want to adjust the entry that goes to Quickbooks for the negative rebate check.  By default the entry will come in as a negative check, you will want to delete the check and change the transaction to Debit a contra revenue account (like Fees) and Credit the Payback liability account.

U6) If an invoice is only partially paid, how do I clear the balance?
It depends on weather or not you expect any more payments to come in on that invoice.
1) If you believe more payments are coming, just post the partial payment and do not mark the invoice as 'Paid'. Then you can post more payments to that invoice and the invoice will remain on the aging reports.
2) If the partial payment is all that you are going to receive, simply
mark the invoice as paid.   When you settle the invoice, WinFactor! will back out the unpaid balance from the rebate due for that invoice.

U7) If I have previously advanced a customer at 80% and I now want to begin advancing them 85% can I change the advance amount in their setup or will it effect what has already been entered?
Go ahead and change the amount in their profile. It will not affect advances you have already entered, just new ones. Also, you can even change the advance amount on an individual advance or even a single invoice by overriding the default amount that comes in.

U8) Is there a shortcut in the receipts screen to post payment quickly?
Yes, double click on the amount applied field and WinFactor! will fill in the outstanding balance of the invoice and mark it as paid!

U9) How do I handle an invoice that I received payment on but did not Factor?
This is called a non-factored invoice.  While entering the receipt, you will notice an invoice number of the voucher that does not exist in WinFactor!.  From the receipts screen, Click on the Add button, select the terms, invoice number and amount and any transaction fee that may apply.  If you do not have a set of terms called "No Fee", you may want to setup a set of terms that charges no fee (this is done under Tables, Terms).    This will enter the invoice into the system without any advance.  You can receive the full payment against it and WinFactor! will rebate the full amount of the payment to your client during the settlement step.  If it is your policy to charge a transaction fee for handling the check, key in the amount you want to charge in the transaction fee box.  As an alternative, you can enter the invoice under advances and simply put zero as the advance amount.  Be sure to consider what fee schedule you attach to this advance.  Some companies charge regular fees and some do not.  Either way, you can configure WinFactor! to work they way your company does.

U10) I want to show all activity for a single client: assignments (advances), settlements, invoices outstanding and everything else that went on with that client for a specific period of time. Does that report exist?
We do not have a single report that has purchases, aging and settlements on it, but we do have several individual reports that will give you that information per client or company wide, and all are date range driven!

U11) On the reserve analysis report what is the difference and definition of the Original Reserve and Current Reserve?
Original reserve is the reserve at the time of purchasing the invoice.  Current reserve takes into account the fees that have accumulated against the reserve (if you are using a time based fee).

U12) Is there a way to make the system show the day you buy the invoices as day one? Because right now, or at least the way I entered in the invoicing the system does not show day one until the following day.
Yes, under company info, factoring rules, invoices first day should be 1 instead of zero

U13) How do I account for a short payment on an invoice or a credit memo being issued after we advance on the invoice?
The easiest way to handle it is to not worry about the credit memo and apply the payment (even though it is short).  When you settle the invoice, the software will see the short payment and deduct the balance from the rebate.  This will be reflected on the Settlement Statement.   If the invoice has not been paid, the face amount of the invoice can be adjusted to reflect the credit memo, or you can use a negative invoice.

U14) How do I import Invoices from Excel?
WinFactor allows you to import invoices from an excel spreadsheet. To import invoices, click on Advances from the main menu, then the Import button at the bottom of that screen. The spreadsheet must be in a specific format, do view a sample, click here.

U15) When I log into WinFactor, I get the error message "You have exceeded the number of users you have licensed for Win!Factor. Someone must get out before another user can get in. If you feel this message is in error, get everyone out of Win!Factor, delete the file wf30data.ldb in your data directory and try again. User Count = 15"?
WinFactor tracks the number of people logged into the system in a file called wf30data.ldb. Sometimes, a user does not get cleared out of this file when they exit WinFactor. As a result, the file will think more people are logged in than actually are. To resolve this, get everyone out of WinFactor and delete the file wf30data.ldb located in your data path. (if it still exist .. normally when the last person logs out, the system will delete the file for you)

U16) I am getting a database corrupt error message, what do I do.?
It depends on which database is corrupt. If it is the wf30main.mdb, they just get an update from our updates page. That will replace the local copy of wf30main.mdb which will fix the corruption.

If the error says the corrupt database is wf30data.mdb, you have a little more work to do. This means your main datafile is corrupt. 99% of the time it can be repaired with no data loss. If the repair process fails, you should be prepared to restore this file from your nightly backup.

These steps require a basic understanding of working with files in Windows. If you are not comfortable with these instructions, you should get help from your IT support person.

First, download the Jet database repair utility by clicking here. Save it in the same directory as your datafile. (for single user licenses, this file is usually stored in c:\program files\winfactor 3.0\) For multi-user versions, this file is on the network somewhere. Open the folder you just saved the jetcomp.zip file to and unzip the file. Run Jetcomp.exe. Here you select the wf30data.mdb file as the source, then enter a target with the name wf30data-fixed.mdb. Before you click on compact, be sure to select the destination format as 3.x (instead of 4.x)

Click on the 'Compact' button. If it completes without any errors, rename the source file wf30data.mdb to something like wf30data.bak and rename the new file you created (wf30data-fixed.mdb as wf30data.mdb)

That should fix the corruption error!

U17) How do I pay off an invoice that has gone bad with other rebates.
There are two ways to go about this, depending on how you want the fees to work. The first method is to settle the invoice even though it has not been paid (or even if only a small amount has been paid). To do this, go to 'Settle Invoices' and select the invoice from the list. If the invoice has had any payments posted to it or if the invoice is now beyond its recourse date, it will be on the list automatically. If the invoice is not on the list, click on "Insert Invoice", find the invoice and click on 'Add'

Then settle the invoice like you would any other. It will post a negative amount to the rebate account (in the amount of the advance amount plus calculated fees). Then other positive rebate amounts that hit the rebate account will eventually bring the balance back up to zero.

If, however, the invoice is large and will take a long time to pay off, you may want to continue to accrue fees until it gets paid off. (The method above calculates fees up to the point in time you settle it.) To do this, each time you settle a good invoice that posts a positive amount in the client's rebate account, go ahead and pay a rebate out. But instead of cutting a check to the client, turn around and post it as a payment (in the same amount as the rebate) towards the bad invoice. These small payments will continue until the invoice is paid off. At that time, you can settle the invoice and the fees will be calculated until the last payment was posted.

There is another way to pay off a bad invoice, and that is by taking the amount due from the next schedule of invoices purchased. To do that, add a charge to the Advance schedule and check off the box 'Apply to Client Rebate Account'.

U18) How do I create a letter of notification from WinFactor.
From the Client screen, click on the customers tab and select the customer you want to send the letter to. Then click on the button "Create letter of Notification" If this is the first time you have done this, you may be prompted for some initial setup information. First, WinFactor needs to know where Microsoft Word is located on your PC. If the path is not setup correctly on the company info screen, WinFactor will prompt you for the location of Word. If you are prompted for the location of Word and do not know where the program is located, click on start, search Files and Folders and search from winword.exe Once Windows finds the file, note the path where the file is located and enter that into WinFactor.

Next it will open a generic letter of notification mail merge document (called notify.doc) This is a Word mail merge document and it may prompt you for the location of the data source file (temp_ver.doc) Choose browse and point to the file which will be located in the same directory as Microsoft Word. Once you have selected the source file, edit the document to read the way you want it to and save it as notify.doc.

From the Mail Merge Tool Bar, select merge to new document and you will have your letter of notification merged with the client and customer information (address, phone number ,etc)

U19) When I start WinFactor, I receive the following error message.

"The expression On Open you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: Object or Class does not support the set of events."

This happends on Vista PCs with Access 2007 installed. Once Access 2007 is started, it breaks some of the DLLs that Access 2003 uses. And when Access 2003 tries to re-register the library DLL's Vista denys blocks the process as a security 'feature'. There are two solutions depending on if you need to run Access 2007 on your computer.
- If you do not use Access 2007, re-run the WinFactor demo install (save your files first if you have any data you need to save) This will re-register the library files that are broken. Then you can run WinFactor using the standard startup icon.
- If you also use Access 2007 on yoru PC, you can modify the WinFactor startup link to use the new version of Access to run WinFactor.

Reports

R1) How does the "Return on Investment (ROI)" report work?
The ROI is annualized to account for the days out. As an example, say an invoice returned a 5% fee. (5% of the advance was earned as a fee) If that fee took 30 days to earn the ROI would be 5% * 365/30 = 60%. But if the fee took 60 days to be earned, the ROI would be 5% * 365/60 = 30%. Using this method the ROI takes into account both the fee earned as well as how long it took to be earned.

R2) I ran Return on Investment and Rebates report for the same period of time. My totals in the "fees " column do not match, why?
The ROI is calculated by taking the return (fees earned) and dividing them by the investment (Advance amount) and annualizing it. Since you can not divide a number by zero, invoices with zero advances (non factored invoices) can not be included on this report. You probably have some non-factored invoices that you charged a fee on that accounts for the difference.

R3) Is there a way to print particular pages from multi-page reports instead of having to print the entire report? Customer Statements is one example.
Yes, preview the report, then hit Ctrl-P on your keyboard. A print dialog box will pop-up that will allow you to print select pages as well as specify the printer, number of copies, etc.

R4) I am confused with the Hybrid (As of Date). When entering the to: Date I would expect the report to only calculate from the advance date to the to: Date, However, it calculates from the current date. What is the meaning of the to: Date if not to alter the calculation. The Hybrid (As of Date) is exactly like the Hybrid Bracket report.
The purpose of the Hybrid (As of Date) is to show what the Aging picture was at a point in time. When you enter a 'As of Date' it will show you only invoices advanced prior to that date and will reflect only receipts posted before that date. So the number you want to look at is the total outstanding dollars. As for the age of each invoice (which the report also shows), it is calculated based on the current date. This is not a problem since the purpose of this report is to show the A/R dollars at a point in time, not the age of invoices at some prior point in time.

R5) When I run an aging summary I come up with 41,619.92 for Client X, however if I run a single client aging for them with every invoice listed my total is 52,988.82. What could the problem be?
Partial payments are to blame here. The balances on the summary aging report include partial payments, but some of the detail aging reports do not.   I suggest running the aging reports that say 'with partial payments' if you find yourself entering partial receipts to invoices.  Run the report 'Detail Listing, Sorted by Age with Partial Payments' for Client X and you will see the difference.

R6) We use QuickBooks checks. Can we use QuickBooks formatted checks in WinFactor?
Yes! Download this file (wfcustom.zip) and unzip into the same directory as your datafile (wf30data.mdb) If you are unsure where your datafile is, please see Question "I3) Where is my datafile?"

Restart WinFactor and it will have new copies of the Advance Check and Rebate Check that should match your QB Checks. If you already have a wfcustom.mdb, do not replace it with this one, or you will loose your other custom reports, instead contact support at support@winfactor.com

R7) I just updated WinFactor and all my reports disappeared ... what happened?
Our new security model allows you to control which user has access to a specific report. There is also an option to allow a user to have access to all reports. Click on Tables/Setup, Users, select the username of 'user' from the list, click on the 'Report Rights' tab and check off "Allow Access to All Reports"

Q1) I am using the interface between WinFactor! and QuickBooks. Do I need to setup each Client and Customer in QuickBooks as well as WinFactor!?
You do not need to setup each individual customer or client in QuickBooks. That level of detail is tracked in WinFactor!. All factoring transactions are posted to a generic customer when using the export. All you have to do is setup the generic customer :Factoring Customer" once before you begin importing.

Q2) We are trying to export to Quick books. Once we create our checks.iif file and try to import it I get the following messages: (1) "Transaction split lines to accounts receivable must include a customer on that split line." (2) "Error on line 9: Can't record invalid transaction" 
We have seen this happen under 2 circumstances.
1)
Check to see if you have a Vendor called "Factoring Customer"  If so, delete it and manually add a Customer called "Factoring Customer"  Then run the import again.  

2) Sometimes QB will generate this error for no good reason. If you turn around and import the file a second time, it will import without an error.

Q3) I have exported an advance into Quickbooks, now I need to go back and edit this advance, but it is locked, what do I do?
Go to the Advance that you want to unlock, click on the tab 'Other Settings' and double click on the check mark next to 'QB Exported'. WinFactor will ask you if you want to unlock this Advance, click on Yes. Then it will ask you if you want 'Unmark the Advance as exported, answer No to that.

Now you can edit the Advance, when you close out, WinFactor will re-lock the advance. If you make any changes that have financial implications, be sure to correct them in QuickBooks as well.

S1) What scanner should I use with WinFactor.  
Any TWAIN scanner will work.  See the table below for some models our customers have purchased.

$200 to $300 Takes single sheets at a time, easier than a flatbed to scan.  200 dpi BW takes about 15 seconds per page.  Not a bad scanner for light work.

Visioneer 9450
$500 This entry model ADF (Auto Document Feeder)  is inexpensive, but we have had reports that it jams or double feeds a lot.  If you want an ADF, you should probably spend a little more.

Canon DR-2080C
$700 This is a very popular scanner.  It handles a wide range of document sizes.

Canon DR 3060
about $3000 If you are serious about scanning, this is the scanner of choice. It will scan almost any size document with speed and great contrast. It is grayscale only, but can scan up to 86 images per minute. Presorting, rescanning, and frequent paper jams have been virtually eliminated
High speed scanners ... $1500 and up If you are scanning hundreds of pages a day, you should invest in a high speed scanner.  In the long run they will save you money in man hours and reliability.

S2) When I try to scan or view a scanned document on my Windows XP PC, I get the message "this computer does not have the Kodak scanning control installed as needed for scanning".  
All versions of Windows from 95 to 2000 came with the Kodak scanning software.  WinFactor! uses this software to both scan and view documents. Unfortunately, Microsoft stopped including this software with Windows XP.  Contact us and we will send you a replacement file.

S3) What software do I need to scan when I have WinFactor 3.5?  
To scan using WinFactor Version 3.5, you need to install a scanning application that allows WinFactor to talk to your TWAIN scanner. Click here to download and istall the program.
